【11/4】Traditional culture experience program for foreign visitors “Kabuki” /外国人向け伝統文化体験プログラム 歌舞伎

Kabuki is one of Japan's representative traditional art of entertainment, integrating elements of music, dance, and acting. It is said to have been created in Kyoto around 1600. Since then, it has continued to pass down its traditions while incorporating modernity, continuing to exist as a form of the theater which has fascinated people for more than 400 years. In 2005, it was registered as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.

During this program, you can learn about history, actions, lines, kumadori(kabuki makeup) and props of kabuki for free of charge.



Kabuki Experience Program Contents (60 minutes)

1st session (12:00-13:00)
◆Explanation of Kabuki history and actions by the Kabuki actor, and experience of mie(pose) and line (12:00-12:30)
◆Experience trying prop for Kabuki. After the lecture you can actually take photo with props such as a Japanese sword and a Japanese umbrella. (12:30-13:00)

2nd session (17:00-18:00) *The venue for 11/4 2nd session will be change to "Harappa Nihonbashi YS Building 2F, 2-2-2,Nihonbashi Honcho, Chuo-ku, Tokyo ( updated on 10/19)
◆Explanation of Kabuki history by the Kabuki actor, and explanation of kumadori (kabuki makeup) (17:00-17:30)
◆Experience trying prop for Kabuki. After the lecture you can actually take photo with props such as a Japanese sword and a Japanese umbrella. (17:30-18:00)

*There is differences what you can learn between 1st session and 2nd session. 1st session learn about mie(pose) and lines, 2nd session learn about kumadori(kabuki makeup)

* Guidance is available in English and we will hand out the manual in Japanese, English, Chinese and Korean.
